Linda Schurman

Linda Schurman is an IAA Board Member and the Vice-chair of the Phoenix Chapter. Linda Schurman invented the “Kanga Ring” Hanging Cell Pouch. The “Kanga Ring”  Hanging Cell Pouch is a cell phone holder for cars. It allows the phone to hang from the cigarette lighter in a car, which makes the phone easily accessible while it is connected to the charger. Linda had planned to liscence the Kanga Ring and let retail outlets sell them to the public. However it became clear that this would not work. Linda didn’t give up though. She began  sewing prototypes herself. Linda kept improving the design and materials until at last she was satisfied with her product. She hired many graphic designers to design a way to package the Kanga Ring and to design posters to help her advertise. Then Linda went to a local dealer of Cellular One. She showed the Kanga Ring to the managers, and although they thought that it was a great invention, they had no authority to buy one to put on display. Linda still didn’t give up. She went to visit one of her friends who works at a car wash. The manager of the car wash bought one of her Kanga Rings and set it up on display in the waiting room. A customer bought the first Kanga Ring even before Linda left the car wash. Then she went to local car dealerships and this also worked out very well. Linda eventually established about 100 retail sites in the Phoenix area, and her invention was successful!
