EAR

Facts: EAR is a model of an ear for educational purposes to students enrolled in the speech and audiology program. With a system that is simple to operate it will generate standing waves on a circular plate at different octaves of the natural frequency of the plate. These waves will then be visualized with the aid of fine crystal such a table salt. EAR uses a linear inertial force transducer (large version of a voice coil in a speaker) to excite the plate. EAR allows students to control the pressure inside the eardrum, which will change the wave propagation, just as in a real ear.

FRESPA

Facts : FRESPA is an in-line audio equalizer meant to help improve speech intelligibility of cell-phones for individuals with normal hearing or mild hearing loss.  It is attached to the mobile phone of the user and increases the volume level of various pitches that are important for understanding differences between words so that the consumer is better able to hear the conversation while talking on the mobile phone.

LARYNX

Facts : Larynx is a human vocal system model, which consists of respiratory, phonation, and resonance subsystems. It is a “hands-on” model or a learning guide and visual aid to complement the anatomical teaching of speech mechanisms in the fields of biology, medical sciences, speech and language sciences. Larynx is also a tool to assist researchers studying topics related to the human vocal system, such as laryngeal prosthetic design. The modular design coupled with user-control will allow the variance of several model parameters to explore the effects on the acoustical characteristics such as the pressure drop across the vocal folds and the standing wave patterns within the system.

VIRTUAL

Facts : Virtual Project is to provide undergraduate students in the field of Audiology and Speech Sciences with an opportunity to practice diagnostic testing procedures on fake patients. Undergraduate students are not able to work with real patients to practice skills learned in the classroom. This hands on experience can prove to be very beneficial to many students. This program is groundbreaking and there is currently no other product available to students.

VLM

Facts : Voice level meter (VLM) is to help people who speak either too loudly or too softly. VLM is PDA software program that allows the PDA to function as a dosimeter. The meter shows the user how loud they are speaking and what level they should be aiming for.
