Our Goals

As part of the access and ability sector, the CAR Team is responsible for designing and building specially equipped cars which can accommodate a co-driver. Our mission is to increase the confidence and self-esteem of children with disabilities and encourage their participation in social activities with their peers. Our desire is to hearten the spirit of competition among individuals 8-18 years of age, and grant them the opportunity to soar down the track.

Project Partner

The Indianapolis Soap Box Derby Challenger Division is our project partner. This organization allows kids with special needs, that may prevent them from traditional soap box cars, to race in competition. Their goal is to promote families working together and allow children of any age or ability to race.

About EPICS

Engineering Projects in Community Service, EPICS, was founded at Purdue University in the fall of 1995. EPICS is a unique program in which teams of undergraduates are designing, building, and deploying real systems to solve engineering-based problems. Each EPICS team has a multi-year partnership with a community service or education organization. Projects are in four broad areas: human services, access and abilities, education and outreach, and the environment. So far, Purdue EPICS teams have delivered over 150 projects to their community.
